State police respond quickly to car crash after driver has seizure

HERMON, Maine — Maine State Police Detectives Brian Strout and Jennifer Fiske were in the right place at the right time. They had just left a local business Tuesday afternoon and were on Interstate 95 heading north when they witnessed a car drift off the road and hit a tree just before reaching the Coldbrook Road exit, Trooper Doug Franklin said.

“They stopped to check on her and she was just coming out of her seizure,” he said.Penobscot resident Rebecca Brady, 19, “appeared to have a seizure and drifted off the road, the right side of the highway” just before 1 p.m., Franklin said. “She wasn’t speeding or anything. She struck a tree and it caused the vehicle to roll on its side.”Rescue crews had to cut Brady from her vehicle, and she was taken by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center.“She had a bump on her head but she was awake and didn’t appear to be badly injured,” Franklin said.

One lane of the highway was closed to vehicle traffic for a short time while rescue workers loaded Brady into the ambulance. The quick response by the two State Police detectives helped emergency responders get to the scene quickly and was greatly appreciated, Franklin said.
