OLD TOWN, Maine — Officials are working to determine a cause of a fire that sent crews from four communities to a Chapman Street apartment building Sunday night.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene around 10 p.m. Sunday, Old Town Fire Chief Steve O’Malley said.

Crews arrived to flames shooting out the back windows of a second-story apartment, O’Malley said.

The downstairs tenants managed to get out before firefighters arrived, and the renter of the second-floor apartment was not home at the time of the blaze.

O’Malley said firefighters from Old Town, Orono, Milford and Bangor were able to knock the blaze down in about 30-45 minutes, and officials from the state fire marshal’s office were on scene Monday investigating.

The first-floor apartment has water damage, and the second-floor apartment is unlivable, O’Malley said.
