BANGOR, Maine — A burst water pipe in a downtown business briefly shut down Central Street on Saturday morning, according to the fire department.

The Rock & Art Shop, located at 36 Central St., closed for the day, according to information on its Facebook page.

The Bangor Fire Department was called about 10:10 a.m. to the buildings owned by WBRC Architects and Engineers at 36-44 Central St., according to Assistant Fire Chief Darrell Cyr.

Firefighters found a burst pipe on the second floor that was causing water to flow downstairs into the Rock & Art Shop. Cyr said the pipe was on an outside wall of WBRC’s offices. It most likely froze and burst due to the frigid temperatures.

In addition to damaging merchandise in the shop, it soaked a rug in the offices.

Firefighters were on the scene for less than hour, Cyr said.

Damage estimates were not available Saturday.

With the cold weather, the Bangor Firefighters have been responding to many broken pipe calls. Earlier in the week members responded to a local Hannaford store for a broken sprinkler pipe as well.
